Rubber Roofs in Tintern

One Sheet of EPDM, No Joints

An EPDM rubber roof covers most domestic flat roofs in Tintern in a single sheet, so there are no seams across the field of the roof for water to find. We bond it to new decking and finish the edges with trims made for the system.

EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane supplied on the roll in large sizes, so most domestic flat roofs are covered with one piece and no joints across the main area. It stays flexible in cold weather, moves with the timber as it expands and shrinks, and is not broken down by sunlight the way older bitumen coverings are. We fit RubberCover, an EPDM system made for UK roofs with its own adhesives, trims and accessories.

Rubber is a good fit for garages, single-storey extensions and dormers where the roof is a simple shape and does not get regular foot traffic. Because it is bonded with adhesive rather than a torch, it also suits roofs close to timber cladding, plastic roof lights or anywhere a flame would be a worry. It is less suited to balconies and roof terraces, where a harder surface takes wear better.

Pricing

What Affects Your Rubber Roof Quote?

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price yours once we have seen it. These are the things that make the biggest difference to the figure on your quote.

01

Size & Shape of the Roof

A simple rectangle is quick to cover. L-shaped roofs, extra corners and pipes through the roof take more time to detail.

02

Deck Condition

Rubber needs a smooth, firm base, so any soft or uneven boards have to be replaced before the membrane goes down.

03

Trims & Edges

The length of edge to trim, and whether it finishes into a gutter, against a wall or over a parapet, affects the materials needed.

04

Insulation

Turning a cold deck into a warm deck adds a vapour control layer and insulation boards beneath the rubber.

FAQs

Rubber Roof Questions Answered

Do you cover Tintern?

Yes. Tintern in Monmouthshire is one of the areas we cover from our base at 70 Stalls Farm Road, Droitwich, along with nearby Lydney, Cinderford and Dursley. Call 0808 143 7154 with your postcode and we will arrange a time to look at the job.

How long does an EPDM rubber roof last?

EPDM ages very slowly compared with most flat coverings, because it does not dry out or crack in sunlight the way older bitumen felts did. In practice its life depends on the decking beneath it, how well the edges are bonded and whether the roof is walked on. We look after all three when we fit it.

Can I walk on a rubber roof?

Occasional foot traffic for clearing gutters or cleaning windows is fine. A rubber roof is not designed as a terrace, though, and sharp stones, furniture legs or dropped tools can puncture it. For a roof you plan to sit out on or use as a balcony, a GRP fibreglass roof with a hard topcoat is usually the better choice.

Does fitting a rubber roof involve a torch?

No. RubberCover EPDM is bonded with adhesive and the trims are fixed mechanically, so there is no open flame on site. That makes it a good option beside timber cladding, uPVC fascias and plastic roof lights, and it means work can go ahead right up against the house with no fire risk from the roofing itself.

What changes the price of a rubber roof?

The area of the roof, its shape, the condition of the decking and the length of trim needed all play a part. Pipes, roof lights and lanterns add detailing time, and adding insulation adds materials. Each of those appears separately on your quote, so the figure is clear before you commit.

Who looks at my roof before a rubber roof is quoted?

Call us or use the quote form to tell us about the roof. A roofer comes to look at it first, measures up and checks the deck, then explains whether rubber is the right choice or another system would serve you better. Once you have the quote, you decide when to book.
